Chancery Bistro, City central

I don’t know how but I’ve started getting promotional emails from Chancery Bistro, previously known as Mecca. The special was quite tempting - dinner for two for $59 including two bubbles or beer plus complimentary parking! Is this really true…?

When we arrived, there were only two tables with people which kinda scared me. I felt better after our shared antipasto arrived. The plate was full of small treats such as succulent chicken skewers, crispy and tangy calamari, hummus, bread, olives and cheese. Wow. Calamari was the clear winner with its golden crispy skin which wasn’t heavy at all. We were craving for more but decided to behave as we had two more courses to come.

Our mains arrived not too long after the entree. My eye fillet with roasted tomato, courgette, caramelised shallots was good but the shiraz glaze was too sweet which disturbed the steak flavour. My dining companion had the same problem with his scotch fillet too. We both asked if our parmesan potato mash could be swapped with fries and the waitress had no problem with it which we appreciated.

We ordered vanilla creme brûlée and pistachio ice cream as our two desserts and surprisingly they complimented each other so well! It was a very pleasant night. However Chancery Bistro’s original price is on the high side compared with its quality. We surely enjoyed our promotion though.

Everything other than the main meals. Waitress seemed new but she handled everything well.

As above.
