Stafford Road Wine Bar, Birkenhead

It was a girls' night out and I made a suggestion to go to a nice wine bar, Stafford Road. I've been here a long time ago and didn't eat much then, so it was time for me to refresh my memories and try out their tapas.

Our Goat's cheese & walnut croquetas (12) came out and we were worried about the serving size of this place. 5 small balls came beautifully decorated with pear purée and purple flowers on top. I'm not a cheese lover so goat cheese was a touch heavy for me, however my two other friends really enjoyed this. When other dishes came out, our worries and thoughts of ordering fries (to fill us up) disappeared. Brioche toastie w ham hock (11) looked so amazing we hesitated to start on it. Brioche was nicely toasted but I wish it had more prominence of tomato or other veges as it was very meaty. Boneless chicken wings (13) were interesting accompanied by beef crackle. Cured beefs (19) were okay while the garden pickles it came with was amazing. Crispy and refreshing - a perfect combination with the meats. This was also accompanied by lavosh, thin and crunchy bread which was interesting.

The place was packed but we could still talk to each other. Atmosphere was fantastic with dim lights and comfy sofas. We simply had a great night :D

Loved ♥ Food, atmosphere and great wine list!

 Unloved  Nothing really!
