Market Kitchen & Bar, Newmarket


Bunch of us went to the Market Kitchen to do some catch up last week. I really like this place as the service is wonderful and the atmosphere is calm and quiet. The other thing which is also nice is that you can do BYO on wine at $15 per bottle. Great to celebrate special days with gorgeous wine of your own!

We started with a Panko crusted prawn to share ($17.5) which was a generous amount and we gobbled through it quite quickly.

We decided to order a different main each and steal each others'. The Pork belly on pumpkin & ginger puree, pea shoot & golden raisin salad, Angel hair leeks ($34) had a real crispy skin which was gorgeous. I am not a big fan of ginger so didn't enjoy the puree as much as others. 

My main, Pan fried market fresh fish w squid ink Jerusalem artichoke, fennel & chorizo oil ($35) was a bit of a disappointment as it was bland. The salad was nice however we weren't sure what squid ink was doing there other than making my dish look dirty...
Aged grass fed beef eye fillet on celeriac gratin, spinach carbonara, crispy pancetta, red wine jus ($39) was the winner of the night. Beef was succulent and juicy and creamy spinach accompanied it well. I only had a bite of it so I had to go back to the restaurant to have it to my own!!!

No dessert were looking too hot so we went to Milse which I will talk about in my next post :)
